Problems at this stage are almost certainly modem related. Check that
your modem is connected to the computer and switched on.
Windows 3.1 Users
- Check that you do not have any fax software running in the background
awaiting incoming faxes
- If you modem was identified correctly, and the modem is failing to
initialise, try selecting the 'standard 28,000' modem from the list
instead
- If you can hear your modem dialling but the login fails, you may
need to change the initialisation string for your modem. This string
is found in the 'modems2.ini' file in the c:\iexplore directory. A good
string to try is AT&F
- The Shiva PPP dialer sometimes has difficulties with PCMCIA modems.
If you have such a modem (normally laptops only) you may need to call
technical support.
Windows 95 Users
- If your modem was detected and identified correctly, try selecting
the 'standard 28,000' modem instead
- If the modem is failing to initialise or if it is dialling but the
connection is failing you may need to change the modem initialisation string.
Select modems from the control panel, then properties/connection/advanced. In the
'extra settings' box try AT&F or AT&F%C0 (thats a zero)
